This tour takes you to Samburu, a semi-arid region that is mainly inhabited by the Samburu community, a semi-nomadic community that primarily herds cattle, sheep, goats, and camels. The reserve is famously known for its special five species of wildlife which inclued Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and genenuk. There are other species of wildlife incluing lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, elephants, gazelles, warthogs, jackals, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.
Pick up from your hotel, airport or other agreed location and embark on your 5 to 6-hour drive to Samburu, located on the north of Mt. Kenya, along the Ewaso Nyiro River, which waters this arid savannah. On arrival at the lodge/camp, check in at the hotel then proceed for lunch. Depending on where your accommodation facility is, you will visit one of the following parks: the Buffalo Springs Game Reserve, Shaba National Park or Samburu Game Reserve. This park is home to a number of wildlife, including beisa oryx, gerenuk gazelle and greater and lesser kudu, grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffe, Somali Ostrich among others. After a brief relaxation, embark on an afternoon safari game drive as you explore this park in search of the above-mentioned wildlife. This area is also a birdwatchers’ paradise. There are hundreds of bird species, in beautiful colours, that will make every moment worthwhile. Return to the camp/lodge for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast at the lodge/camp then embark on a morning safari game drive. Visit the water holes, which are great meeting point for wildlife as the y come to drink water. Return to the accommodation facility for relaxation. Later on, have lunch, followed by an afternoon safari game drive in search of wildlife. The park being the natural habitat of this wildlife means that you will see the wildlife going about their day to day activities which include grazing, hunting, mating or just relaxing. Return to the lodge or camp after the game drive. Relaxation, dinner and relaxation at the lodge/camp.
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and head to a Samburu village. Learn a little about the Samburu people, culture, lifestyle, among other things. Continue on your journey to Nairobi, with a brief stop along the way for lunch. Drop off at the airport or any other agreed location. End of safari.
