Your journey begins with a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka, a town that serves as the gateway to the Omo Valley. Upon arrival, you will visit the South Omo Research Center and Museum, which provides valuable insights into the rich cultural diversity of the Omo Valley tribes. Afterward, you will drive through picturesque landscapes to Turmi, the land of the Hamer people. If the day coincides with a local market, you will have the chance to experience its vibrant atmosphere, filled with colors, traditions, and the rhythms of daily life. In the evening, you will explore a Hamer village, where you can interact with the community and learn about their fascinating customs and way of life.
Overnight in Turmi (Lodge).
After breakfast, you will set out on a scenic drive along the Omo River to visit the Karo tribe, who are renowned for their striking body painting and elaborate cultural traditions. Their village overlooks the river and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. After spending time with the Karo, you will begin the drive back toward Jinka. Along the way, you will stop at a Mursi village, where you will encounter the Mursi people, one of the most iconic tribes of the Omo Valley, known especially for the unique lip plates worn by women and their distinctive cultural practices. This visit provides a rare opportunity to witness one of Africa’s most traditional ways of life. In the late afternoon, you will continue to Jinka and check in at your lodge for the evening.
Overnight in Jinka (Lodge).
In the morning, you will visit the Ari tribe, who are known for their agricultural skills, pottery, and weaving traditions. Their fertile land allows them to grow coffee, spices, and cereals, and they are recognized for their craftsmanship and colorful traditional dress. After experiencing the Ari way of life, you will be transferred to Jinka Airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa, marking the end of your enriching Omo Valley journey.
