TOUR DESCRIPTION
Join us on a morning excursion to Comillas, the only Modernist city in Cantabria, where history, architecture, and breathtaking landscapes come together. This enchanting town is deeply connected to Antonio López y López, the first Marquis of Comillas, whose influence shaped many of its most iconic landmarks.
Our journey begins at the Old Major Seminary (formerly the University of Comillas), an architectural masterpiece designed by Joan Martorell and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. This grand structure, blending Modernist, Gothic, and Mudejar styles, stands majestically atop a hill, offering panoramic views of Comillas and the striking Palace of Sobrellano.
Next, we’ll visit the extraordinary Capricho de Gaudí. This early masterpiece by Antoni Gaudí, built in 1885 for Máximo Díaz de Quijano, is a vibrant tribute to sunflowers and music. As one of Gaudí’s few works outside Catalonia, it represents the beginning of the Modernist movement, making it a must-see for architecture lovers.
To conclude, we’ll take a scenic drive through Comillas, passing by some of its most picturesque landmarks, including the old cemetery, the port, and Comillas Beach—the perfect way to soak in the town’s unique charm before heading back.
