About this tour

Trek to the base of sacred Mt. Jomolhari, witness enriching mountain festival celebrating lives of mountain people living in harmony with natural environment around them. You will get to savour mountain food!.

The Jomolhari Mountain Festival takes place annually on 14 & 15 October. Therefore, you must plan to arrive in Bhutan on 8th October.

Jomolhari Mountain Festival is an exquisitely themed two-day event celebrated at the base of Mt. Jomolhari by communities located along one of the most scenic trekking routes in Bhutan. The festival celebrates the culture of the communities living together with the natural wonders that surround them: one in particular is the elusive, yet elegant, snow leopard! This endangered cat thrives in the region; several camera trap photos and definite signs have established the region as one of the best snow leopard habitats in Bhutan.

12 Days 11 Nights Jomolhari Mountain Festival Trekking Tour takes the same trekking routes as Jomolhari Loop Trek. The only difference is you get to halt 2 extra days in Jangothang to mingle among the people who live a nomadic life herding yaks at an altitude ranging from 2,500 meters to nearly 5,000 meters and celebrate their 2-day annual Mountain Festival which offers great opportunity to explore and experience local culture and cuisine. The highlight of this trek is not only the fascinating mountain festival but also the spectacular view of majestic Mount Jomolhari from the Jomolhari basecamp accentuated by splendid landscapes, flora and fauna.

What Do I Need to Bring?

 • You will be on the move most of the time, so we recommend you pack as lightly as possible. Some of your heavy belongings that cannot be carried on the trek will be stored at the hotel and then the driver will deliver them to you at the end of the trek.
 • During the course of trekking, we provide full-service camping at campsites designated by the government. You will be provided porters, pack animals, cooks and certified trekking guide. All camping equipment (with the exception of your sleeping bag and pillow) is supplied.
 • Things provided
 • Things not provided (some of the items in the list are optional)
 • Clothes
 • Please ensure that you bring comfortable and appropriate clothes. A number of thin layers are better than a few thick ones. Thermal underclothes which are small and light can be very useful. You may wear shorts only while hiking and not during cultural tours as it will restrict you from entering any sites of religious significance and other public places or government offices. The weather is cold from the end of October to late February. From March to early June, the weather is quite favourable but it can still get cold in high mountains and the weather is subject to change in high altitudes. It is expected to rain sporadically from mid-June through mid-August and light shower in early September.
 • Health
 • While Jomolhari Trek is moderate for many trekkers, it could be challenging for some. We highly recommend you to train and get physically fit as it passes through altitudes ranging between 2500m to nearly 5000m above sea level and the trails often lead through rough terrains. You get the most out of your trip if you are physically fit!
 • We recommend that you carry a First Aid kit and hand sanitizers gel/wipes, antibacterial as well as any personal medical requirements. If you are under medication, please bring enough supply to last the whole duration as the same drugs may not be available at the local pharmacies.
 • Most people can travel to 9,000 feet with little effect but anyone can react to altitude differently and altitude sickness can affect some people irrespective of physical fitness and age. This trip reaches an altitude of almost 5000m above sea level so please consult your physician on how to best prepare and what to do in the event you are affected on this trip. Our trained guide will take care of you but it is best if you know your fitness level.
